CROCODILES
NILE CROCODILE
Average size: up to 3,5m, occasionally up to 5m and more. The Nile crocodile is the largest Crocodile in Africa.
Weight: up to 2,000 lbs. (900kg)
Max age: up to 100 years
NATURAL HABITAT & DISTRIBUTION
Crocodiles can be found in most African countries south of the Sahara where there is water.
BEHAVIOR
They spend the majority of the daytime sun basking to keep their preferred body temperature. The evenings are the crocodile’s most active periods. Crocodile eat fish and catch a variety of Antelopes up to Cape Buffaloes when they come to drink but they do not need much food. Crocodiles are hole-nesting reptiles and usually use the same hole for a lifespan. More than 200 people die each year in the jaws of a Nile croc.
THE HUNT
Crocodiles are challenging game animals. Finding and determining the right one is sometimes difficult since in some cases only the crocodile’s head is outside of the water. They are wary and their senses are good. A carefully stalk is required and a precise brain or neck shot is necessary to anchor it on the spot and to prevent it from disappearing into deep water.
